Questions and Answers

This area pertains to our image restoration & enhancement services only.

Please note: We will not knowingly nor willfully accept any images for enhancement or restoration which are known or thought to be copyrighted without the expressed written and acknowledged consent of the owner of the copyright.

How do I get my pictures to you?

You may send your negative, transparency (slide), files or print to us by the courier of your choice or use our printable prepaid postage label. You may also drop off your images at our studio. Go to directions.

If sending your original print, be sure to package it carefully in a container which it will not be damaged in.  Most couriers and office supply stores offer durable packing. Do not send a print framed with glass, as the glass could break and damage the print.

You may also scan and e-mail the image to us in jpeg format, or make a disk, zip or CD copy file to send to us.  When scanning use a minimum resolution of 250 DPI or PPI.

If you do not have a scanner, many businesses such as Kinko's Copies, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples and others will scan and e-mail or make a disk, zip, or CD of your image to send to us for a nominal charge.   Be sure to specify 250 DPI or PPI.

How long will it take to get them back?

We ask that you allow an average of 4 weeks for the restorations. Not all photos will require this much time, but the restorative process can be time consuming depending on the services requested, our current production schedule and the condition of the original photograph.

Are my original pictures altered in any way?

No, we take the original photograph, negative or slide and place it in a scanner which "sends" a high resolution "copy" into our computer system. All the work is then performed on this "copy" in our computers. Your original is returned in the same condition.

We have an old black and white picture that we would like to have color added to.  I don’t want everything colorized, just one subject.

We can colorize all, or any desired portion.  Some customers prefer to have their black and white prints remain black and white. Others wish a natural full color restoration, or a simple element tinted with color for accent.

I took a beautiful picture of a family in the living room one evening, but unfortunately it shows a littered coffee table. Can you "clean up" the mess?

Yes, we can remove most any subject material from photographs.

Our school pictures are very good quality, however they unfortunately show their adolescent facial blemishes. Is there a way to hide these blemishes?

We can hide facial blemishes as well as "soften" facial wrinkles, hide birthmarks or scars and remove dental braces.

Can you repair a photograph that is torn in half?

As long as there is enough detail to digitally reproduce the facial features, then we can restore it back to its original condition.

Our customer found an old photo of their grandmother that they  would like restored. Unfortunately, whoever took the picture cut off the top part of her head. Can you fix this as well?

We can replace missing tops of heads and remove those "out of place" hair strands as well.

It seems very costly to have photos restored. Is there a reason for the high cost?

Besides the high cost of the equipment and software used to scan, digitize and print the finished product, it often takes several hours of very close and complex detailed computer manipulation to obtain a print that is "restored" to its original condition. Our processes are time consuming, but in order to achieve a realistic and natural look, they are a vast improvement over the simple painting and airbrushing techniques used in the past.
